  Arc Angel and Seraphim Awards

Since 1995 the Butler County Arc has made a presentation known as the Arc Angel Award that has been given to persons who have made a difference in the lives of the MRDD clientele by donating time, effort and themselves to make MRDD clients a bigger more accepted part of the community. The following is a list of persons who have received the Butler County Arc Angel Award.

Also the Butler County Arc on a few occasions has presented the Seraphim Award to people either in the Arc or closely associated with Arc whose work has also made the lives of MRDD clients a richer experience, they are also listed below.

Arc Angels

1995 Barbara Creedon

While acting as the MRDD Community Integration Specialist went far beyond her work description to expand the possibilities and integration of persons with MRDD into the Butler County Community.

1996 Jean Sparks

Organized and has chaired the Butler County Arc Holiday Dinner Dance since it�s inception in 1981. Organized and and coordinates the activities of the Arc Angels Singing group and the Rhythm Band. Jean has served as an MRDD Coordinator for the MRDD tax levy in Ross since 1991. She has been a long time member of the Special Olympics Board and the Arc Board.

1997 Carol Ashton

Organized the parents Advisory Group at Hamilton Center. She was co-advisor in the development of the Friendship Club. Carol reorganized and chaired the committee for the Annual Arc Picnic for 3 years. She served as a coordinator for the MRDD tax levy in West Chester for 2 campaigns.

1998 Sandy Stropes

Organized the Therapeutic Recreation Board for Butler County. She was the first editor for the Therapeutic Recreation Newsletter and continues to do so today. Sandy served on the SERRC Board, The MVI Board, the Fairfield Center Citizens Advisory Board, As Secretary for the Arc Board, a past president of the Parents Advisory Group in Middletown and organized a successful Friends and Family mailing during the recent levy campaign.

1999 The Optimist Club

Under the leadership of Mark Kollsted this organization sponsors and provides volunteer help for the Therapeutic Recreation�s Fall Halloween Party and Summer Fishing Derby.

2000 Doctor Robert Creedon

Recognized for his leadership in organizing and nurturing the Dental Care Program. for adults with Developmental Disabilities living in Butler County.

2001 Betty Dostie

Organized and served as co-chair or the Drama Club, helped organize and has co-chaired the Friendship Club, since it�s inception. Betty has chaired the committee for the Butler County Arc Picnic for the past 3 years. She also served as coordinator for the MRDD levy in Liberty Township for 2 campaigns.

2002 Betty Murphy

Served as the first chair for Special Olympics in Butler County and held that position for several years. Developed the first bowling league for MRDD clients in Middletown. Betty also served for many of the formative years on The Butler County Arc Board

2003 George Mayberry

George served as a coach for the Special Olympics State Champion Blue Devils Basketball team. George has been involved as a mentor and friend to many MRDD clients beginning when he married Susan whose brother has Downs Syndrome. He is widely recognized in the MRDD community as a friend and brings that special bond to those friendships.

2004 Don Broshear

Don served as a coach for the Special Olympics Basketball team, he has also been a golf coach for special olympians and is always available to help where needed when needed. He has been that special behind the scenes helper for many years.
